Stellantis recalls 298K Dodge vehicles in US over rollaway risk

Stellantis is recalling more than 298,000 Dodge vehicles in the US over a glitch in the park function that could cause vehicles to roll away, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday.

Certain 2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles are included in the recall.

About 2% of the 298,439 units – or approximately 5,969 cars – are estimated to have the defect, the Detroit-based automaker said in a recall report.

A faulty shifter cable may detach from the transmission, blocking the car from shifting into park and causing rollaway vehicles.

The defect could cause an unrecoverable loss of the park function, or a sudden vehicle movement in an unintended direction – increasing the risk of a crash.

Stellantis – which also owns Jeep, Ram and Chrysler – said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the recall.

The same 2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles were recalled in 2019 over a similar issue with faulty shifter cables. Vehicles that were brought to dealerships and repaired for that recall will still require the new remedy.

The remedy is currently under development. Stellantis said it plans to mail notification letters alerting owners of the safety risk by Nov. 6, 2025.

A second notice will be sent once the remedy is available, the carmaker said.
